A new report from Paul Turrot shows that the very ambitious two-element project of Andromeda by the American company has not yet died. Simply, Microsoft is working to improve the hardware and software of the device with two screens.
The report said that Microsoft originally planned to announce a device with a dual-screen design, that supports several form factors, including a tablet, phone, laptop and digital notepad, in the second half of 2018, but now decided to launch the product in late 2019.
There are many reasons why Microsoft postpones release of Surface Phone, codenamed “Andromeda”. First, the gadget will be based on the ARM processor, and now the top-level chipset, optimized for Windows 10 ARM, is the Snapdragon 835 processor, released last year. Although Snapdragon 850 has already been announced, Qualcomm is also working on a powerful processor designed for Windows 10 ARM, and is expected to be presented next year. Microsoft, obviously, wants to wait until the processor is completely ready, and then just release Surface Phone.
Secondly, considering that the device with two screens will be released under the Surface brand, Microsoft wants Andromeda to become a major success. That’s why the company spends more time on the thorough refinement of the gadget.
