Many IT corporations several years ago managed to create such AMOLED-screens, which can bend and take any form. The problem is that they need to be protected with help tempered glass, but until recently, flexible glass did not exist. Japanese company Asahi Glass intends to surprise the world. The developers announced the creation of a flexible safety glass for folding and transforming smartphones.
Japanese Asahi Glass promises to show the public its new invention, which has no analogues throughout the world. This is a flexible protective glass for smartphones, which with the help of chemical compounds is reinforced. Its thickness is only 0.07 mm, that is, it is 5-6 times thinner, than the current glasses. Despite such modest thickness, as the manufacturer assures, its glass is 80% stronger (almost twice) of those the glasses, that are used in smartphones now.
The limiting tensile stress in the new glass of Asahi Glass is 1,200 MPa, and the possible radius of curvature is 2.5 mm. Such indicators are enough to use it in flexible smartphones, the appearance of which in the market is expected in the next few years. The peculiarity of Asahi Glass glass lies not only in its flexibility, but also in the fact that it is almost impossible to break it. It is much more resistant to falls and other types of physical impact.
We note, that smartphone manufacturers are not in a hurry to bring to the market folding smartphones, if it’s not about traditional folding phones – the same Samsung is working on its prototype Galaxy X for the fourth year, but it has not yet been officially introduced.
