In the framework of the international air show Farnborough-2018, the British company Rolls-Royce introduced the concept of its own EVTOL (Electric Vertical Take Off and Landing) taxi, designed for transportation of 4-5 people, flight at speeds up to 400 km / h and overcoming the distance up to 800 km. The wings of the electric aircraft will rotate by 90 °, providing a vertical takeoff and landing.
EVTOL is going to be equipped with a gas turbine engine Rolls-Royce M250 and an electric motor with a power of 500 kW to supply energy to 6 screws mounted on the wings and tail. Batteries will also be powered by the turbine. Rolls-Royce confirms that this hybrid arrangement is more practical, since refueling requires less time than recharging, and aircraft will be able to use existing airports or heliports.
The designers of the concept count on the use of a flying device in logistics and military affairs, and also as a public transport.
