Two car companies, participating in the world championship of Formula 1, have already announced the construction of road hypercar. Mercedes-AMG has already presented its Project One, and Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin the fantastic Valkyrie. Now they were joined by Toyota. The Gazoo Racing team began work on a new direction of creating road cars based on racing.
The Japanese are going to use their experience in the World Championship for endurance WEC in creating their hypercar GR Super Sport. While this is only a concept, but the president of the concern Akio Toyoda believes that his company has enough experience to create a serial hybrid hypercar.
The new concept was told by Shigeki Tomoyama, president of Gazoo Racing, who presented a concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show. Appearance is expectedly simpler than that of the leman sports prototypes, but it is also clear that the roots of the project go in autosport. The technical stuffing does not hide this: she was shared by the car Toyota TS050 Hybri. Carbon monocoque of its own design and production, two-link suspension type push rod and hybrid power plant.
Behind the back of the driver is a longitudinally installed turbocharger V6 2.4 with direct fuel injection. Together with the petrol “six” is working installation Toyota Hybrid System-Racing, with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. As in a race car, the total output of a hybrid powertrain reaches 1000 hp (500 hp from V6 and two electric motors). That is, we get a hypercar, similar to Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1, but with racing roots.
This is the starting point where Toyota takes new challenge to develop sports cars from active race cars, even though it’s only concept now, through GR Super Sport Concept, it is hoped that people can get a taste of Toyota’s next generation sports cars.
The issue of the serial future remains open, but Toyota management is confident that sooner or later such a road hypercar will become a serial one. Not the fact that its appearance will be preserved, but this is no longer essential.
