NASA is developing a robot to explore the icy waters of Jupiter’s moon Europa. The new machine will produce energy from local magnetic fields. Soft robot amphibian resembling an eel or squid, is part of NASA’s advanced innovative concepts NIAC.
Robot for study of Europe will use an innovative way to produce energy. Solar panels are fragile resource. It will be equipped with a special antenna, capable  extract the electric charges from changing magnetic fields of the local environment.
The long-term goal is to study the satellites of gas giants such as Europe, in particular in the areas as in aqueous regions that do not fit the conventional energy system, – the statement says NASA.
For program NIAC agency chose 15 different ideas, each of which will be supported by a grant of $ 100 000 dollars. Preparation of a feasibility study concepts winners will take nine months. For the most successful participants will open the second phase of the program, which provides funding of $ 500 000 and two years of research. Earlier this year, NASA considered the possibility of sending in the methane cold lakes and rivers of Titan (the largest moon Saturn’s) unmanned submarine.
