Taiwan Institute of Industrial Technology ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) demonstrated a video clip dedicated to their new development – a folding smartphone. The gadget is working, ringing and even equipped with a hardy AMOLED display.
The design of a folding device is far from ideal, but the sample presented is a test one. So in the future he should get a more presentable “appearance.” As you can see, in the decomposed position the gadget is similar to the 7-8-inch tablet. The bend is slightly shifted to the side (from the middle). It is assumed that they intended this so that in folded form one could see a part of the display with notifications, calls, SMS and other things.
As representatives of the institute have informed, neither the smartphone nor its details are afraid of folds. They can withstand up to 200 thousand folds. It is believed that the average user activates his mobile gadget 150 times a day, which means that the strength of a flexible AMOLED-panel should be enough for four years of fairly active use. At the moment it is not known what the prototype is waiting for later, when it will be released to the commercial market and whether it will be released to it at all. Perhaps, the Taiwanese engineers will bring it to perfection, and then they will sell the development to one of the famous manufacturers.
