Today, computers no longer occupy the entire room or the whole floor in the building, but the powerful hardware is still bulky by modern standards. However, IBM states that it will be able to correct the situation.
Legendary American company IBM has created the smallest computer processor, the size of which is less than the crystal of salt. The power of this device is comparable to the x86 chip of 1990. Although by present standards this is clearly not enough. According to company representatives, such a baby will be built from “several hundred thousand transistors”, and the cost of its manufacture will not exceed ten cents. Its capacity is enough to process, monitor and analyze the database. On board the novelty has a power source, an analog of RAM and a photosensor.
The microcomputer also works with the new technology – a block of cells. It can be used as a data source for application blocks. This will allow, for example, in logistics to monitor the movement of cargo, allowing timely detection of problems. The computer is also able to perform the basic tasks of artificial intelligence, such as data distribution. While IBM engineers are testing only the first prototype, the company already says that in the next few years new micro computers will be used in everyday life in familiar objects and devices, as well as in trade.
