Swedish company Einride released a prototype of a self-controlled “robot truck” T-pod, which lost the steering wheel, pedals and windshield. In short, the model is not equipped with a driver’s cabin and at the same time it works well. The pilot technologies were first used for trucks. The self-propelled transport is powered by electricity and one charge is sufficient to drive up to 200 km.
The length of the T-pod is 7 meters, and the maximum weight is 20 tons (under load). Smart truck is able to drive independently without a person, and can also be operated remotely by the operator. The system will include 200 T-pods, on the way will be placed the charging stations. The company plans to test the novelty in 2017 and by 2020 Einride intends to use the truck for commercial purposes. The lorry will be running in Sweden between the cities of Gothenburg and Helsingborg.
