Like many automakers, Smart has planned a full transition to electric motors. Therefore, in the future, we expect more economical electric mini-cars, that cut across the roads of megacities. Following the general trend, the company intends to release in the series a completely autonomous model in which even “just in case” there will be no physical controls. They will be replaced by voice control and a 24-inch touchscreen instrument panel. City-car Smart Vision EQ Fortwo, according to the developers, it will be an ideal option for the car sharing.
The two-piece mini-car (the length of the prototype is 2699 mm, the width is 1720 mm and the height is 1535 mm) with a lithium-ion battery of 30 kWh capacity can overcome about 300 km on one charge, independently going to the “refueling” station when the battery charge level overcomes the critical mark. The electric car can be recharged wirelessly using a wireless induction system.
Management of the taxi fleet will be entrusted to artificial intelligence, which will optimally distribute calls between free vehicles. The taxi, called by the mobile application, will arrive at the destination, notifying the customer with help of the inscription on the external 44-inch display on the front bumper. There will also be broadcast information for others about the status of the car.
The internal panel will allow passengers to get information about the route, traffic jams, travel time, weather and so on. In Smart Vision EQ Fortwo almost completely transparent round doors, reclining back. Such a decision should minimize the likelihood of an accidental collision with cyclists, motorcyclists, skateboarders, and giddy pedestrians. To materialize the prototype in the finished commercial product Smart planned by 2025.
